Overview
We sell 50 Years On: The Marina de Gama Story as a printed book and as a digital ebook. Because these two formats work differently, they have separate return and refund terms, set out below.
Printed Book Returns
Our returns policy for the printed edition lasts 14 days from the date of delivery. If 14 days have passed since delivery, we can no longer offer a refund or exchange.
To be eligible for a return:
- The book must be unused and in the same condition you received it
- It must be returned in its original packaging
- You must provide your receipt or proof of purchase (e.g. order confirmation email)
Partial refunds only will be granted where:
- The book shows obvious signs of use or damage not caused by us or the courier
- The item is returned more than 14 days after delivery
Please do not send returns anywhere other than the address we provide when your return is approved.
How to Start a Return
Email us at patrick.mckenna1961@gmail.com or patrick@composition.co.za to let us know you’d like to return your book. Once approved, we’ll confirm the return address with you.
Shipping Returns
You are responsible for the cost of shipping the book back to us. Shipping costs are non-refundable, and if a refund is issued, the original delivery cost (if any) will not be reimbursed. We recommend using a trackable shipping service, as we can’t guarantee we’ll receive your returned item.
If the book arrived damaged, defective, or incorrect due to our error, we will cover the cost of return shipping.
Ebook (Digital) Refunds
Because digital products can’t physically be “returned” once accessed, refunds for the ebook edition are considered case by case, at our discretion. If you experience a technical issue (e.g. a faulty or corrupted file), or purchased the ebook in error, please contact us at patrick.mckenna1961@gmail.com or patrick@composition.co.za and we’ll review your request.
Refund Process
Once your printed book return is received and inspected, we’ll email you to confirm receipt and let you know whether your refund has been approved or rejected.
If approved, your refund will be processed back to your original payment method via PayFast, our payment provider. Please allow a reasonable processing time for the refund to reflect, as timing can depend on your bank or card issuer.
Late or Missing Refunds
If you haven’t received an approved refund after a reasonable period:
- Check your bank account or card statement again
- Contact your card issuer or bank. Refunds can take time to post officially
- If you’ve done both and still have not received it, contact us at patrick.mckenna1961@gmail.com or patrick@composition.co.za
Your Rights Under South African Law
This policy operates alongside your rights under the Consumer Protection Act (CPA), which may give you additional rights depending on the circumstances of your purchase (for example, in relation to defective goods or transactions concluded at a distance). Nothing in this policy limits those statutory rights. If you’re unsure how the CPA applies to your situation, we’d encourage you to seek independent advice.
